About The Author
Dr. Ketan S. Amin, BAMS , MD is an Ayurvedic physician , based in Ahmadabad, India , who specializes in Nadi Pariksha (Pulse examination). Having worked as research scientist in leading national and international pharmaceutical companies in his early career years, he has also researched on more than 350 Ayurvedic medicinal plants to understand and analyze, the role of active constituents and the clinical actions of plant as whole materials.
Dr Amin has delivered lectures on Ayurvedic principles of diagnosis at University of Hamburg and colleges affiliated to Oregon State University in USA , to guide the students interested in Ayurveda . He has worked with German based company for development of ayurvedic health, ethical products. He has provided consultancy services to many National and International pharmaceutical companies for developing ethical and OTC Ayurvedic formulations.
Dr Amin has developed a technology, patented in India and Europe, which measures classical parameters vata , pitta , kapha and many other sub parameters in scientific terminologies to understand the pathogenesis and the homoeostasis, that diagnose the patient. For this invention, he was also awarded by the Government of India as the first inventor to explain Ayurvedic classical method of diagnosis in the form of science and technology.

Mrs. Shefali Ketankumar Patel is BSc (Food and nutrition), became dietician with a specialized subject in “obesity and metabolismâ€, and took experience in Apollo hospital. After that, she has also undergone training in diet and food preparation in traditional Ayurvedic way. Today she works as a dietician in Surat plans the diet for chronic patients to improve their immunity. As a dietician she considers the prevailing health condition of her client, age factor, season prevailing, state of metabolism and other criteria to prescribe a diet plan based on the Ayurvedic principles.
As she stays in joint family, in her spare time. Mrs. Shefali has worked hard and used her experiences in writing guidelines in Sva Dehi Samarthya for preparing the recipes, to make food tasty and nutritious. Her main objective is, the future generation of india would not forget, Indian traditional recipes of food ingredients, the traditional rules and micro care to prepare tasty and nutritious food preparations and future generations would stay healthy. Mrs. Shefali has also worked as a dietician in leading hospitals like Apollo Hospital in her early career.
LATE SHRI SUBHASH CHANDRA RAOJIBHAI AMIN
My father, Late Shri Subhash Chandra Raojibhai Amin, was a B.Sc. (Chemistry), MBA, MPM (Gold Medal) from Indiana University, USA and has worked in Alembic, a prestigious pharmaceutical firm, as a Marketing manager for 26 years, where he marketed prescription products. He had guided many pharmaceutical firm directors and managers on marketing pharmaceutical products through ethical approach. After his retirement from Alembic he continued his work as he guided many Indian Ayurvedic prescription manufacturing companies on ethical marketing approach. He was highly successful in this and so was so highly sought for advice and guidelines. Later on he even went to give ethical marketing approach to International pharmaceutical companies.
He spent seven years in Germany for this purpose. In his long career he has worked in United States, London, Dubai and Netherland based pharmaceutical companies that were interested in selling Ayurvedic medicines through ethical approach. He highly supported the fact that Ayurvedic medicines should be scientifically researched, clinically tried and sold through ethical approach. These same principles he has passed on to his son, Dr. Ketan S. Amin and his daughter, Mrs. Shefali K. Patel. This book “Sva Dehi Samarthya†is dedicated to the principles and values held by Late Shri Subhash Chandra Raojibhai Amin, whose life was lived in promoting ethical approach for Ayurvedic pharmaceutical products. This book Sva Dehi Samarthya is also written on the same principles as guided by him. This book Sva Dehi Samarthya is dedicated to Late Shri Subhash Chandra Raojibhai Amin and the principles he lived and worked for.
MRS. NIKHILA SUBHASH CHANDRA AMIN
My mother, Mrs. Nikhila Subhash Chandra Amin, 77 years of age, is a double graduate with BA (Economics and Psychology) and BA (Home Science). She has worked as a professor of applied arts in the reputed college SNDT of Mumbai University. She has trained many girl students in Indian crafts and art product making which included Indian embroidery, Indian handicraft, Indian painting, Indian jewellery designing, Indian dress designing and on the art of cooking Indian food. These were her main subjects of teaching and interest for her entire career. She has guided many girls on how to earn a living out of such art and craft activities by helping them to set up cottage industry. She then went to export such handicraft products to European countries, particularly in Germany, under the home company, Immune.
Mrs. Nikhila Subhash Chandra Amin who on facing many hardships of life continued to do her work with passion for a long time. After years of struggle she was recognized by the Indian National Education and Human Resources Development Organization, an Indian Government organization, and was given a National award for her contribution to Indian Arts at a function held at Ravindranath Natya Mandir Hall in Mumbai. In her earlier days she has also won the second place in Indian Hairstyle competition held at National level. Mrs. Nikhila Amin who has lived most of her life in joint family system and so under the guidance of the elders of the household has gained insight to the traditional Indian cooking with taste and finer details kept in mind. In such joint family system she sharpened the art of Indian cooking and these guidelines she has passed it on to her daughter, Mrs Shefali K. Amin. Her rich experience in this field has been utilized in this book Sva Dehi Samarthya to guide the future generations of women on the forgotten art of traditional Indian cooking.
